Reddish Electroplating (Stockport) Ltd was established in Reddish, an area within the town of Stockport, Greater Manchester, in 1971 by the founder Samuel Hanks. Sam began his working life at Hilton and Tuck, in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, back in 1962 where he served his apprenticeship.
Once his skills were honed and had gained further experience at various other electroplating and coating companies, he decided to fulfil his late father’s aspirations and set up his own company.
It began as a smallish company in a rented unit on the old Craven Tool site, providing industrial hard chrome plating and polishing services for mould tools and dies employing just himself and one other. As the company became more popular it moved into other fields including hydraulics, mixing machines for rubber and plastics, extrusion machine components and began to employ more staff. Eventually by 1985 Reddish Electroplating had outgrown its factory and it was relocated to Portwood near to the centre of Stockport and the M60 motorway. This location was ideal for links to all the surrounding industry in the North West and further afield. The new factory had better lifting facilities, more power and a lot more room. That was the beginning of the new era.
With the larger factory we had the room to add cylindrical grinding, bigger polishing facilities, welding machines for the repair of used and worn out components, on site jig manufacturing etc and shaft straightening for hydraulic rams. We could now reduce turn-around times on many jobs as we were in control of the whole process of pre-chrome preparation, chrome plating and finishing under one roof.
We are now pretty much a one stop shop for most repair and chrome plating work.
“We have dealt with Reddish Electroplating for many years and found that they are very competitive in their costings and lead times. We would have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone who has chroming and grinding requirements.”
